Dutch Football legend Johan Cruyff has died age 68

RIP. Great player.

That's a shame - he was one fantastic player, always enjoyable to watch.

I remember him doing this live on the TV and was absolutely amazed, I'd never seen anything like this before, never even imagined it - no one had!

Kids today will probably look at that clip and wonder what the big deal is.

Because in this age of constant, live-streamed "unbelievable tekkers", every man and his dog is trying something flash in games.

(For our lot, "something flash" largely constitutes passing the ball accurately over ten yards to another white shirt, but you get my drift.)

But back then, George Best apart, nobody was trying stuff like that until Cruyff and his mates in the "total football" Ajax team came along.

Truly revolutionary in its day.

Sorry to hear of his passing.

When I first saw this thread, I thought it was about his son who played for United and had to read it again.

Didn't know much about this guy TBH.

Lung cancer apparently. I know he used to smoke like a barsteward when he was a manager - possibly whilst he was still a player too.

If we're all supposed to be living until we're 100 nowadays (as suggested by the Tories in their latest attempt to keep us all working into our early 80's), why do so many famous people suddenly appear to be popping their clogs in their 60's?

I think we're being lied to.

Either they're not really dead and are all being loaded onto a spaceship before some asteroid they're not telling us poor people about strikes, or the Tories are making their figures up.
