Wellington Silva has been ruled out of this weekend’s home clash against Reading with a groin strain.
The Brazilian winger was last seen apologising to supporters outside Ashton Gate after the miserable 6-0 defeat against Bristol City before the international break.
He limped off the pitch just 17 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute but the club has now confirmed he will not be fit to face the Royals this weekend.
Jimmy Phillips has hinted he could name a more experienced line-up in an effort to stabilise the club’s form but the interim boss will still be without the services of Ben Amos and Dorian Dervite.
Amos has been out since February with an ankle injury sustained in the 1-1 draw against QPR and though he has recently returned to training with goalkeeper coach Bobby Mimms, has not set a date for a return to the first-team contention. Paul Rachubka will continue as number one in his absence.
Dervite has spent a similar amount of time on the sidelines after damaging knee ligaments in the 1-0 defeat at Birmingham City.
The French defender is now running in training again but is still considered to be a fortnight away from full fitness.
David Wheater has reported no problems after his comeback from injury, which means he is likely to partner Rob Holding at the heart of defence on Saturday.
Phillips is keen to put the defeat at Bristol City behind him and start rebuilding confidence in the camp.
“It is important we produce a reaction from that result,” he told The Bolton News. “From what I have seen from the players so far they want to move on, and from a coaching perspective I certainly do too.
“We have looked at the mistakes made in that game and we know how we want to improve on them.”
Reading’s away form has proved to be their Achilles heel this season, yielding just four wins and 15 points.
The Royals' last win at Bolton was nine years ago, when Kevin Doyle scored twice in a surprising 3-1 victory that all-but ended Wanderers’ chances of catching Arsenal and claiming a Champions League spot.
That result also proved to be the final home game that Sam Allardyce would manage Wanderers, as his shock resignation came just eight days later following a 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
