Following Breads meal out yesterday and a recent article in the Bolton (Evening) News, which do you think is the best eatery around?

For those of us who don't live near Bolton anymore please feel free to chip in with places you went to when you did and/or places where you live now.

The BN's top 10 based on Trip Advisor reviews -

1. Royal Balti House, Lower Market Street, Farnworth

THE Royal Balti House has been in Farnworth for nearly 26 years, with loyal customers flocking back time after time.

Boasting an extensive menu with more than 200 dishes, you are bound to find a tasty dish to whet the appetite.

Comments from customers, on TripAdvisor, include 'amazing food', 'nothing is too much trouble' and 'brilliant service'.

Manager Nurul Meah said: "We are more or less serving a third generation of customers. We have lots of regulars and they tell other people.

"Word of mouth is a big thing. People know us so well now."

2. The Bank, Bury Road, Bolton

THE Bank restaurant promises great food, hot coffees, cheeky wines, cold beers and good times. Its previous guises include an insurance company, hairdressers and also a TSB bank — hence the name.

3. The Cherry Tree, Chorley Road, Blackrod

The family-owned restaurant and bar's menu serves classic British cooking with main dishes including pot roasted Angus beef and slowly braised lamb shoulder — yum.

4. Olympus Fish & Chip Restaurant, Great Moor Street, Bolton

Arguably one of Bolton's best-known restaurants, Olympus serves up some of the best fish and chips around — for which customers flock for miles.

5. Nick's Restaurant, Chorley Old Road, Bolton

Nick’s Restaurant opened in 2001, bringing culinary flair and metropolitan flavour to a small corner of Chorley Old Road. The popular eaterie is owned by Bolton News columnist Nick Cullen (pictured below giving a demonstration at Bolton Food & Drink Festival).

6. Luciano's at Middlebrook, Horwich

Peckish while you're out shopping or fancy a pre or post-match Italian? Check out Luciano's which promises a casual dining experience without compromising on quality.

7. Sokrates Taverna, Winter Hey Lane, Horwich

A relaxed and friendly restaurant serving Greek, Cypriot and Eastern Mediterranean cuisine. The focal point of the menu is the Greek Meze banquet which offers an array of 15 or more dishes.

8. Unity Brook, Manchester Road, Kearsley

The latest four star review says: "Busy pub that is very popular with the locals and understandably so. Delicious, home cooked food served piping hot and with a smile. The cheese and onion pie was awesome and the portions are generous".

9. Tonge Thai, Tonge Moor Road, Bolton

Enjoy a taste of Thailand right here in Bolton. The dishes are inspired by those served on the streets of Thailand, with the website stating: "Let us take your tastebuds on a culinary tour of the bustling outdoor food stalls of Thailand".

10. Retreat Grill, Bar and Restaurant, Chorley New Road

Retreat serves a combination of traditional classic meals and modern cuisine. You can also enjoy alfresco dining — weather permitting!

I'm a chippy man myself, and I've probably tried most of them in Bolton. Can't speak for many on Sluffy's list, but I can recommend Alabama's All American Eatery in Manchester.

Bennetts Lane chippy is rightly praised, and most on this list aren't far behind.
I'm sure 58 would put his own local chippy at the top though. Very Happy

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

My local chippy almost got burned to the ground by the people that work there. It was in the paper I think. Shame they didn't quite manage it. They do a decent bacon barm though in fairness.

The Balti House in Farnworth definitely deserves it's place on the list. Bella Italia on the Middlebrook serve very nice food and I really enjoy going there. At the other end of the scale, Frankie and Bennys was shite. The service was slow, the food took ages to arrive and when it did it was overcooked shit.

Been going to the Royal Balti for years, fantastic for a ruby, if you go in take a look at the news paper cuttings on the wall, including the signed photo of Nat.

My favourite restaurant in Bolton is Angelo's Italian on Blackburn Road in Egerton. Small but cosy and quite authentic, good food reasonably priced.

I think that RT is the place where the owner is up before the courts for rape of staff or something similar which was in the BN a few weeks ago.

Bloody hell Karly ...do you have a link. The owners brother-in-law is a big Wanderers fan and a pal of mine. He's currently in France watching the Euros.

Just found the article. Bloody hell...I never would have guessed. Strangely enough he employed a lot of weekend table staff who were mainly students. Well I never....

I wonder if that will be burnt down by idiots thinking they are doing a good job -  like they did with The New Curry House on Blackburn Road - thankfully they have re-opened but on Bradshawgate in town centre (near to The Alma Inn)

The Bank is actually a reserved restaurant - very few know about it but the food is excellent.
