Wanderers have waited a long time to celebrate a new signing – but who is the man who has ended a 290-day drought for the club?

Chris Taylor put pen to paper on a two-year deal tonight and it is hoped he will be the first of many new faces at the Macron Stadium in pre-season.

Just for fun, here are 10 fun facts about the midfielder you may (or may not) know.

1. Taylor usually plays on the left side of midfield but has also moved into the centre of the park and occasionally played at full-back.

2. The 29-year-old was named in the 2009 PFA Team of the Year alongside Joe Murphy, Neal Eardley, Sean O’Hanlon, Jack Hobbs, Dean Lewington, Fabian Delph, Matt Oakley, George Boyd, Rickie Lambert and Matty Fryatt.

3. Usually a man in demand – Taylor has twice turned down £500,000 moves to Blackpool and Leeds United, both teams managed at the time by Simon Grayson.

4. Taylor twice got into double figures whilst playing for Oldham – in both 2008/09 and 2010/11 he scored 11 goals in all competitions.

5. Oldham Athletic fans dubbed Taylor “The Ginger Prince” during his time at Boundary Park.

6. Taylor turned out for Millwall in the FA Cup semi-final in 2013 but ended up on the losing side, with Wigan Athletic returning to lift the trophy that season.

7. Taylor once told the Blackburn Rovers website he enjoys rugby league, that The Hangover is his favourite film and that he once ate crocodile.

8. Taylor made his debut for Oldham in 2005, a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest. Also in the squad that day was former Wanderers full-back Marc Tierney.

9. Taylor had to wait 51 games to score his first goal for the Latics – which came in a 1-1 draw at Carlisle United. But he then scored three times in the next two games against Doncaster Rovers and Leyton Orient.

10. Taylor played for Millwall on the day the Lions beat Owen Coyle’s Wanderers 2-1 – Chris Eagles’ missed penalty and all. Three days later, Coyle was sacked.
