I'll take that military coup now please. Eerily reminiscent of Hitler all of this.

EU leaders have condemned Erdogan.
Still annoyed about the Brexit posters claiming 76 million Turks were definitely joining the EU, effing lying toerags.

Funnily enough, Dave Cameron was all for Turkey joining the EU.

I'm not sure that was actually the case, there was a lot of rhetoric bandied about when the EU were funding Turkey to house the refugee's, Merkel also made noises about it but it all looks like it was a giant dangling carrot and never a real possibility-certainly in the short term.Reebok Trotter wrote:wanderlust wrote:EU leaders have condemned Erdogan.

Britain was Turkey's (but not Erdogan's) biggest supporter because we have a lot of vested interest in Turkey and a strong import history from Turkish manufacturers like Beko who sell a lot of domestic appliances here. Plus we had invested a lot into trying to encourage the secular movement in Turkey which has grown to be roughly half the population and for which it was hoped would stymie any Islamic fundamentalism in the area. Most of all though Turkey has supported our military in Afghanistan and the region as a whole and Cameron saw the strategic importance of developing that military alliance. But all that's irrelevant now.whatsgoingon wrote:I'm not sure that was actually the case, there was a lot of rhetoric bandied about when the EU were funding Turkey to house the refugee's, Merkel also made noises about it but it all looks like it was a giant dangling carrot and never a real possibility-certainly in the short term.Reebok Trotter wrote:wanderlust wrote:EU leaders have condemned Erdogan.
