Hull boss Steve Bruce was interviewed by the Football Association on Monday about the England manager's job.

Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has also been interviewed and is favourite to succeed Roy Hodgson, who quit after England lost to Iceland at Euro 2016.

Bruce, 55, led Hull back into the Premier League last season after relegation to the Championship in 2015.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe and USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann have also been linked with the role.

FA chief executive Martin Glenn is fronting a three-man panel, which also includes FA technical director Dan Ashworth and board member David Gill, to decide the next England manager.

Former Manchester United captain and defender Bruce, who was never capped by England, said in June that he would be staying at Hull.

However, amid talk of a takeover at KC Stadium, he accepted he could be replaced when asked if he was certain of his position.

Prior to talks with the FA, Bruce recently said it was "highly flattering" to be linked with a role he hopes goes to an Englishman.

"There's nobody more patriotic than I am," he told BBC Radio Humberside.

"I'm honoured to be linked with it. It's the pinnacle to go and manage your country. What bigger job in the world is there?"

Surely anyone doubting Allardyce's credentials to manage England are now changing their tune seeing who the competition is. This could usurp the appointment of McClaran as the least inspiring England appointment ever.

For me, the only name that could make a massive difference to the team is Allardyce.

Bruce isn't a bad manager, but has he got anything about him that Hodgson didn't?

Allardyce has clearly got the man management skills that no England manager has had for a very long time. Yes, the football might be dire, but even some of the best international sides out there are boring as hell.

I like Bruce. He's a journeyman pro but I think Allardyce is the much better choice at the moment.

Has Allardyce ever won anything?

Seems amazing we are considering another flop for the top job.

Can't call Allardyce a flop he's been a success at every club he's managed, barring Newcastle where he wasn't given the chance.

I would support Big Sam. Except Wenger and Fergusson I couldn't think of anyone more suitable.

Sam won't get it. The FA will go with Bruce as he's a yes man.

We clearly have a different view of "success".

Where I come from success is trophies on the mantelpiece, a mention in the Penwortham Girls History of Football 1992-2005, and people fawning at your feet.

The only person likely to be fawning at your feet would be your chiropodist.

When the top 6 clubs in the country who because of their financial muscle monopolise 99% of the trophies and are all obsessed with having foreign managers, we have to appoint an English manager who hasn't won trophies but has overachieved with the resources he's had like Allardyce or go for a foreign manager.
For the record Sam's got a mention in the Pewortham Girls History of Football 1992-2005 because he banged some slag with the initials NW and apparently got more than he bargained for.

Steve Bruce: Hull City manager leaves newly promoted club

Steve Bruce has left his role as manager of newly promoted Premier League club Hull City.

The 55-year-old, who did not take training on Friday, had said earlier this summer he was uncertain of his future at Hull, who are up for sale.

Bruce became Hull boss in 2012, and led them to promotion last season.

This week he was interviewed by the Football Association over the vacant England's manager role, which Sam Allardyce is set to take.

Bruce is now odds-on favourite with some bookmakers to return to former club Sunderland and replace Allardyce, if as expected he become England boss.

More to follow.

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

He won't be assistant because if it all goes tits up under Big Sam he'd have no chance of replacing him because he'd be associated with the failed regime.
