Korea don't enjoy the same level of protection they used to from China so I can't see them getting directly involved, however NK's other former communist allies in Russia are extremely unpredictable. I can't see either getting directly involved but the cold war era of fighting by proxy like the Russian war in Afghanistan and Vietnam are very much back. You only need to look at what is going on in Syria, you could easily see a scenario with South Korea and the US fighting a war against the North who are backed by Russian / Chinese aid.

Too many different scenarios to call to button it down to even a handfull. I'm just hoping that the Young Un doesn't pop off at Japan, S Korea, USA territories and Russia. The guy is a mental bugger and is just as likely to throw a celebratory feast as to launch his nuclear weapons. If he has miniaturised his weapons enough to be carried by ballistic missiles then we can all stand from under. If the Yanks launch against him they'll be the pariah and carpet bombing may be the only answer, but he'd better have a few million troops on standby. The whole of North Korea is an autonomy. Bit like the final scenes in I Robot. Bloody frightening.
