Government has approved one of Cuadrillo's applications to frack for shale gas in Lancashire at Little Plumpton between Blackpool and Preston.
It's unusual as the approved programme is for horizontal fracking which has never been attempted in the UK before.
Anyone on here live in that area? - and if so are you worried?

I believe there's a Little Plump 'Un from Preston who posts on here quite a bit.

She'll no doubt be on later to offer her thoughts.

If you want a laugh, have one on me. I ordered six mugs on eBay last week, nice purple ones, with a hint of class. Perfect for a posh brew.
They arrived this morning.
They're for a dolls house.
Don't really know how I managed it.

i think i would be a NIMBY in this case, if its proved to be safe and can help with us finding some way to generate power other than the fossil fuels we still rely on then great, but not sure if i would like to live near it to be honest

We also need to utilise wind farms more as well, we live on an island so this is something we should be investing in more. I did see something on the telly last night about a new farm 8 miles off the coast from Liverpool that had massive turbines but each one could generate enough electricity for 250,000 homes.

It said on the telly people had complained because they were too big and an eyesore, they are 8 miles out to sea  Rolling Eyes

Wind and solar farms should be utilised a lot more in this country.  People who say they are unsightly really get on my nerves.

We have enough space to do it and can even utilise rooftops at shopping centres, supermarkets, and even small business' in exchange for lower business rates.

There is an abundance of options without going down the fracking route.  Its a quick and easy fix, not a long term solution.

I'll be driving through Little Plumpton this afternoon on my way to Lytham.  It's a really nice small rural community, about half a mile from Wrea Green which is a larger idyllic Lancashire village complete with village green and large duck pond and pub.

The last thing they want is a load of trucks and diggers for the next 12 months,  before the gas extraction starts bringing possible dangerous gas leaks and mini earth tremors.

I live about 10 miles away.

I'm always amazed that we don't harness tidal power much more. It's surely more reliable than wind and sun.

I'm no expert on the subject though.

The problem for me here is the democratic process. Whether its right or wrong, the fact is that this application was rejected by at least three levels of democratically elected local councils and authorities - all of whose view was overturned/ignored by  a Government minister ,elected as an MP for a different part of the country.

Savid Javid knew nothing about fracking until Cameron (and then May )decided that that would be part of his cabinet brief as Communities secretary. Think of the irony there- he's completely ignored the views of the local communities. I know he'll have taken lots of advice and be under pressure form government agencies- but democracy means nothing in situations like this.. Its reminiscent of North Korea without the charade of local democracy..

Little Plumpton is a very affluent area. Don't be fooled by this "impact on the environment" bollocks they keep shouting - all they care about is house prices and the fact their area will now be associated with fracking rather than rich people with fancy houses.

No one wants things like this on their doorstep, but it's nice that for once it's going to affect the rich folk rather than the poor.

At least its not another Chinese company, even though the name sounds as though it should be. There again, it isn't British either. I trust the Danes more than the Chinese though.
I found the video quite patronising to the people of Cumbria, etc, and one thing I didn't hear mentioned, was the cost of the project to the taxpayer.

Labours plan to ban any possible fracking in the UK is yet another short sighted policy that appease's the new cult intake of tree huggers who elected and re-elected the bloke in the first and second place.

Cue more working class voters defecting to, if not UKIP, to the party known as apathy.
