Ken Anderson has revealed a plan to make Wanderers ‘self-sustainable’ next summer.

The chairman has admitted huge changes could be on the cards at the end of the season, when 17 professional contracts come to an end.

Key men such as Jay Spearing, Gary Madine, Mark Davies and Lawrie Wilson reach the end of their deal in summer 2017.

Anderson has vowed to trim salary costs, even if the club are promoted to the Championship, and make better use of the loan market next season.

Speaking before his Q&A session at the Macron last night, the man who is vying to become the sole owner of the club discussed his plans to reduce a top heavy wage bill.

“At the end of this season we’ll be down to 11 players, so a number of those will be renewed but on different terms and with the exception of one or two, all the big hitters will have gone,” he told The Bolton News.

“They are all aware who is out of contract, so they need to come and renegotiate.

“I think they are probably playing out of their skins at the moment to try and get promotion and earn another one.”

“That’s where this club goes from running at an annual loss to being in a situation where we nearly break even.

“We still need to bring players in but we won’t be doing that on a million pounds a year. When we get to July the club becomes sustainable.

“We will cut our cloth to what we can afford, rather than what has happened in the past.”

A timely reminder that we shouldn't get too carried away but i'm not sure what message that gives to the high earners and Parky.

Nice to see a bit of common sense, something we've lacked , financially, over the past few years.

As opposed to our former policy of "Buy high and sell low?"
