Just found this from Michael Vaughan's twitter:

‏@VaughanCricket

Roger tells me @themichaelowen has been seen in talks with Mr Gartside?? Off to Bolton perhaps?? @chubby6665 will be happy?

Obviously there are far more reliable sources than Michael Vaughan's mate Roger so this is most probably a load of bollocks, nevertheless would you want him if it was true though?

Personally I wouldn't unless he was on a pay-as-you-play deal, which would minimise our loss. I already have my doubts about our medical team so to give them Owen to look after would probably end badly (ie he plays about 5 games), I would also prefer us to sign somebody younger with the potential to improve and do a job for us in the premiership.

That said if he was kept fit (by some form of miracle) he could provide the goals we need to get out of this league. As far as poachers go he was up there with best in his day, but he is 32 now.

He's interested but wants reassurance that he won't be playing second fiddle to Kevin Davies.

No chance.

Apparently they encountered each other at a golf function.

I hope not, i'd hate to see one our Young players condemned to another season in the doldrums while we give this show pony minutes.

I'd say yes- we need more fire power up front and he has knocked a few in for United. As long as he played with Sordell or Ngog up front and not SKD- that would be like a bus pass strike force.
Even at 32 he can get into the box and score a few. In the past Allardyce used to pick up fading stars and get good things out of them for a season or two. I'd rather have an old wise head than a potentially good but unproven young player in the team

No we don't need another permanent injury case.

We're trying to reduce the wage bill and I suspect Owen would want quite high wages. This deal will never happen. I wouldn't want him tbh.

One Owen in the Bolton setup is quite enough, thank you.

lol!

I'd take Michael Owen because he'd score a bundle of goals at this level. Obviously you run the risk of him being injured all season, but he'd put 2000 people on every home gate.

He is too injury prone to waste money on. He would get absolutely crippled in the Championship.

Come to think of it, Bolton News says we are interested in another striker - thankfully a loaner was mentioned which would rule Michael Owen out of the picture.

I saw that, but they haven't mentioned any names. Personally, I think it's just another red herring to keep us eager fans champing at the bit.

I think we will almost certainly sign another striker before the Window ends and probably before the season starts. I doubt Coyle will be planning to get through a season with 2 strikers plus a 68 year old Kevin Davies.

We've got plenty, Eaves, Sordell, Ngog, Davies and O Halloran.

Eaves and O'Halloran are IMO only going to be bit part players if we're serious about promotion. We need a proven goalscorer. I'm not expecting Jordan Rhodes, but only Sordell seems to have goals in him and that's not enough. We need someone who will score at least 1 in 3 to provide genuine competition.

I was being a bit facetious to be honest, i agree we could do with a Kevin Phillips type, not him, but someone with that knack that you know will get 12-15 goals.

Ricardo Fuller or even DJ Campbell might be worth a shout. Fuller is now 32, but I reckon he would score a bundle in the Championship.

If I were to bet, we will end up with a Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester City fringe player on loan as that fourth striker, rather than paying a fee for anyone.
