I think it was in the Hornet where they had some dude who'd been stranded on a remote island with a football and he used to practice all day long crossing the ball to some Easter Island style big head statues. Naturally he became brilliant, got rescued and played for a top team but he could only play barefoot.

I've never read any comics to be honest.

when i was a bit older (16/17) i really enjoyed Daniel Clowes (David Boring, Ghost World, Art School Confidential) Graphic novels really.

I also picked up the Scott Pilgrim comics out of interest but i didn't enjoy them as much tbh.

I think guys generally reach a point where they get into the Marvel stuff and Superman & Batman etc. and if they're not careful they end up like Sheldon.

I had to Google Daniel Clowes. I have learnt something today.

Small wonder we started reading our sisters' comics with covers like that around.

Ah the cosy warm glow brought on by memories of a Salford childhood - keeping ones head below the wall to avoid the bullets. Happy days.

There used to be a character in one of the comics called General Jumbo who controlled an entire model army from his wristwatch. They probably have the technology to do it for real these days. He was a kind of junior Adolf Hitler. In fact, I think he might have been Hitler's love child.

We were young and much more innocent nearly half a century ago - even the word 'gay' back then simply meant being happy!

Oh how times change!
