A full house against Bolton could strengthen Neilson’s hand at MK Dons

Robbie Neilson hopes a bumper home gate at Stadium:mk can prove advantageous against Wanderers.

A crowd of more than 20,000 is expected after thousands of free tickets were issued to homes with a Milton Keynes postcode to celebrate the town’s 50th anniversary, which was officially January 23.

The club is hopeful of beating the record league attendance of 21,345 set against Brighton last March and Neilson – who has won five of his first nine games in charge since taking over from long-time boss Karl Robinson – is optimistic it will help his side.

“For the AFC Wimbledon game, we had a good crowd in and from what I’ve been told, the atmosphere is really good when more people are inside,” he said. “Hopefully people will come, they’ll enjoy the game and want to come back.”

Wanderers embark on the post-Zach Clough era still looking for a first win in 2017, and with four new signings who could potentially be involved, all eyes are on how Phil Parkinson will use them in his line-up.

They come up against a side in decent form after a drab start to the season, with attacking midfielder Chuks Aneke scoring four times in his last two games, including two in an impressive 4-0 win at Peterborough.

Neilson does not think the atmosphere will necessarily deter the Whites and is anticipating a tough game.

“It’s a big game for Bolton,” said the former Scotland international. “They’re used to it in the Championship and higher too. They’ve got Madine up front, who is a good target man and they can get it down and play from there. They lost Clough in the window but recruited well. It’ll be a physical one, our centre backs need to stand up to it.”

It looks good on the surface, but will this be standard for the remainder of home games at MK Dons? I can only imagine season ticket holders and those who already purchased tickets will be a bit miffed. Also, won't it have an effect on gate receipts thus depriving BWFC of a cut, or do home teams keep all gate receipts? At least it will be noisy so could be a good atmosphere.

Bolton would only get a cut of away ticket sales as far as I am aware
