Ian Evatt says Wanderers have not finished in the transfer market and are targeting TWO more attacking players.
Last week saw the club bring in an unprecedented nine new players – Liam Gordon, Billy Crellin, Matt Gilks (as player-coach), Gethin Jones, Jak Hickman, Nathan Delfouneso, Alex Baptiste, Reiss Greenidge and Ricardo Santos.
Evatt, who maintains the club are sticking rigidly to the salary cap rules laid down by the EFL after last week’s vote, says he is not yet finished in the transfer market, and could also add another wide man to his ranks.
“I still think we’re two or three light,” he told The Bolton News. “I’d like to see another couple at the top end of the pitch and possibly some competition at left wing-back. Other than that, we’re not far away I don’t think.”
The eclectic squad assembled by Wanderers so far this summer has made an impressive start to pre-season, comfortably beating non-league opposition in Atherton Colls and Bamber Bridge.
The club intend to organise a few more friendlies before the scheduled start of the League Two campaign on September 12, which could be preceded by the first round of the Carabao Cup a weekend earlier.
The squad will travel for a mini training camp tomorrow, which will give Evatt the chance to fine tune some of the tactical nuances in the new style of football he is looking to bring in.
That a quickly assembled dressing room has taken quickly to what he has asked of them is not accidental, insists the Whites head coach.
“Every recruitment has an element of risk, as I’ve said before, but the more information you take on the better-informed decisions you can make, thus limiting some of that risk,” he said.
“We have recruited players to suit a system and the way I see the game being played and you can see that – the pace and the power in the team is incredible and they can all handle the football.”
