Bolton Wanderers Under-23s extended their winning run to three games following victory over Sheffield United on Monday evening.

The first chance of the game fell the way of Bolton Wanderers. Clayton latched onto the end of Brockbank’s pinpoint pass, however, Eastwood saved well from the forward’s lop.

It was on the 15th minute that the deadlock was broken with the Whites taking the lead. Jeff King’s quickly taken free-kick found Reece Wabara, his cross resulted in a goalmouth scramble that saw Alex Honeyball react quickest to prod home from close-range.

The lead, however, didn’t last long. Sheffield United drew level following a short corner that left Champman unmarked. His delivery found Mallon who calmly slotted past Mark Howard.

Howard was called upon to keep the scores level, producing a stunning save from Reed, this proved to be the catalyst Bolton needed to regain the lead. In the same move, the Whites counterattacked down the left before Matthews cross found Clayton who tapped home.

Howard continued to frustrate the United front line, the Wanderers keeper denied both Brooks and Champman just before the half-time whistle.

With 68 minutes on the clock, Clayton found Viv Soloman-Otabor, the forward was tracked well by Kelly who forced Soloman to fire hit shot wide of the post.

The chance proved to be the last of the game with the remainder very much a midfield battle. David Lee’s side will now look to make it four wins from four when they face Cardiff City on Monday night.
