The Wanderers Grand Tour towards promotion continued with the longest trip of the season to Gillingham with six body-numbing hours on the coach with a refuel at Watford Gap services.

The coach drivers had fun navigating the narrow streets near the Priestfield stadium and the disorganisation continued as the bar quickly ran out of beer.

Fortunately, they restocked by half time.

Everybody was hoping we could carry on from Saturday and keep the winning momentum going ahead of the game.

Phil Parkinson was able to name an unchanged team and segregation between the fans was nominal as we shared the same stand and facilities with the Gillingham fans.

In reality this wasn’t a problem.

We didn’t gave long to wait to see how the game was going to go, with David Wheater heading the opener within a couple of minutes.

ALF kept his promise and put us two up and Mark Beevers kept up with Wheater with the third.

The first half was embarrassingly one-sided and Josh Vela put the game beyond doubt early in the second half.

Filipe Morais had a hand in everything but the whole team deserved credit.

As a Gillingham fan told me on the way out, it was men against boys on the night.

Confidence is high in the team now and the fans are starting to believe.

But we’ve still 10 cup ties to play.

It’s an old cliché but it really is one game at a time.

Bring on Northampton on Saturday.
