Wanderers have been instructed to ‘put the blinkers on’ in their promotion pursuit.
A disappointing home draw against Chesterfield on Saturday ended up extending their lead to seven points over third-placed Fleetwood Town, who were stunned by Swindon.
Elsewhere Bradford City and tomorrow night’s opponents Southend United kept up their chase with victories but Parkinson insists his players should pay no attention to results elsewhere.
“I don’t think there is a better team in terms of points-per-game than us at the moment,” he told The Bolton News. “We have just got to continue that. It is in our hands and we should only concentrate on what we have got to do.
“Yes, teams will put good runs together and you have to be wary but it shouldn’t affect your mindset.
“If the results go for us when we come off the pitch it’s a bonus for us.”
A crowd of 23,376 packed into the Macron to watch the game – the second-largest attendance at this level in Wanderers’ history.
It was also the second-largest crowd for a league match since the Whites dropped out of the Premier League.
Parkinson was disappointed his side’s frustrating performance did not match the surroundings but admits Fleetwood’s defeat did take the sting out of dropping two points.
“The support was great,” he said. “We’d love to have sent all those people who haven’t been here for a while home thinking ‘wow, what a great performance’ but that’s the disappointment.
“I think they saw a committed performance, albeit one lacking that little bit of creativity and magic in and around the final third.
“When I saw the Fleetwood result it was a bonus. The only other time in the last 22 games they have lost was against us, so for Swindon to go and get a result might make a few teams who thought they were safe down at the bottom of the league a bit nervous.
“Where we are, we’d have taken all day. We’re in a little league now with six games to go and we’ve got a head start.
“We can’t get carried away, people can’t think we’ve got one foot in the Championship because we haven’t. We need to keep moving forward.”
