Jay Spearing will be fit to face Peterborough United in this weekend’s grand finale at the Macron.

The Wanderers midfielder picked up a back injury at Port Vale but has now been given a clean bill of health as Phil Parkinson’s side head into their most important match in years.

Skipper Darren Pratley has been nursing a hamstring injury and remains the only doubt at present but Spearing’s all-clear means Parkinson is free to name an unchanged line-up from the one which earned a vital win in the Potteries.

Around 20,000 tickets have now been sold for the televised game where one point will be enough for the Whites to book an immediate return to the Championship.

But Wanderers legend John McGinlay reckons simply looking to avoid defeat would be a mistake.

“They have to be very careful with how they set up because if you play for a draw and they nick something late on, it might give you too much to do,” he told The Bolton News.

“The lads should be confident. They have been up there all season, they have been consistent and if you’d have offered us the chance to win the final home game of the season to go up, I think everyone would have taken it at the start of the year.

“These guys have been fantastic considering the problems the club has had and the relegation last season. And don’t forget, there’s Premier League experience out there – and it has got them through some tough games this season.

“Last weekend’s win at Port Vale was very, very professional. We’ve seen it time and time again, the manager has built a team with people who know what it takes to win.

“One more win and they’re over the line. And I’d love to see them do it.”

Posh boss Grant McCann has confirmed powerful centre-back Ryan Tafazoli will not be rushed back at the Macron after returning from a groin injury.

“Ryan could probably play at Bolton, but I don’t see the point in risking them. They will travel and they might sit on the bench. But I’d rather they were ready to go next season.”
