Josh Sheehan has felt a sudden shift in mood at Wanderers after they halted a poor run with victory against basement boys Crewe.
Friday night’s win has given the dressing room a boost after a testing October, which saw the club drop to 16th in the table.
The result, coupled with a joyous fundraiser for team-mate Gethin Jones’s family on Sunday, has created a more positive atmosphere for the squad going into Wednesday night’s FA Cup replay against Stockport County.
“We just want to keep on winning,” said midfielder Sheehan, whose penalty put Bolton on their way against the Railwaymen.
“Confidence is massive in football, things were easy when we were winning games and playing great football. But then you have a not-so-great month in October and confidence took a big hit, it felt like things were not going our way. It shows that one win can change everything, and hopefully that can carry on now.
“We move on to Wednesday and Stockport, then Wycombe away. We want to keep it going.”
Sheehan now has four goals in his debut season for Bolton, following his summer move from Newport County. And the 26-year-old says he has enjoyed every minute of his stay at the UniBol so far.
“I have had a few months here now and I do feel settled,” he said. “My family has moved up here now, we have a house, and I know and get on with most of the boys as well. It has been an easy place to settle because of the way we play, I fit straight in because that is what I grew up doing.”
A back injury sustained just before last week’s Papa John’s Trophy game at Rochdale forced him to pull out of Wales’ plans for the World Cup qualifiers but now fully fit, the playmaker has set his sights on getting back to top form at club level.
“My main focus is playing well for Bolton,” he said. “Wales is in the background, obviously, and if I get called up then my thoughts are there. But I can only be there if I am doing well for Bolton, the rest takes care of itself. If I am not playing well then it doesn’t come into the equation.”
