Good stuff.

He opened up the main stage at about 10.45 one morning. We had to get up at about 9am (by far the earliest I've ever woken up at Glastonbury other than on the Monday morning to leave).

Because of the early timeslot there was a relatively small but enthusiastic crowd of saddos huddled in front of the stage.

The funniest bit was that next to us there were some proper big fans who had made a green door out of cardboard and kept holding it up throughout the gig. Sadly for them, Shakey didn't play the song Green Door.

He was pretty cool, did a lot of the hits. At one point he said, I'm going to play a new song now, and I shouted out "Is it good?".

But yeah, he was pretty cool. Once in a lifetime opportunity, ha ha.

Largehat, how does a Gorillaz concert work? Is it just a big screen or done with holographics?

I was talking to a Bolton supporter at Glastonbury a few years ago. Can't remember what year it was but 808 State were doing a dj set then the Stereo Mc's were on. Wasn't you was it Largehat? If it was thanks for the e.

Good question. They had stepped in as replacements for U2 who had to cancel because Bono broke his leg or something like that.

I had heard about their major tour a few months earlier where the virtual band plays on stage via holograms and clever lights and shit, and that's what I was hoping for when I saw them. It would have been fantastic I reckon.

Instead, you just got Damon Albarn and the rest stood on the stage as themselves, with animations of the cartoon band on a screen behind them. It is one of the worst headline performances I've seen at Glastonbury, it didn't work that well. Maybe they couldn't do all the holograms and stuff outdoors or on that stage for technical reasons. It was still good, because the music is good, but it can have been special. I've never seen so many people leave and go and see something else instead during a headliner.
