Charlton have held talks with Bolton Wanderers over a loan deal for Ben Amos.
The 27-year-old is a big wage-earner at the newly-promoted Championship outfit, with any interested club only likely to pay a fraction of the salary he negotiated on a free transfer from Manchester United in July 2015.
Amos, who still has two years to run on his contract with Wanderers, spent last season on loan at Cardiff City, who are understood to have paid a significant portion of his weekly wage.
Charlton are in the market for a shotstopper with Dillon Phillips the only senior one on their books.
Amos has been capped by England at under-17 level right the way through to under-21.
He played just seven times for Manchester United and had stints at Oldham Athletic, Molde, Hull City, Carlisle and Peterborough United.
