Report: Coventry City U23s 1-0 Bolton Wanderers U23s Large

David Lee’s side were defeated 1-0 by their Coventry City counterparts in the opening game of the season.

Fielding a variety of new faces from last seasons campaign, the Whites started in a 3-5-2 formation with a number of young faces on the bench.

It was the visitors who had the first chance of the game through midfielder Alex Perry. After some good work from Connor Hall, Perry saw his curling effort go narrowly wide of Burge’s near post in the fourth minute.

Perry once again went close in the 15th minute after some free flowing football from the young Wanderers. The ball eventually fell to Perry inside the box, who turned his marker before his shot forced a save from the Coventry City keeper.

Jake Turner was called into action in the 33rd minute, producing a magnificent save to deny Kwame Thomas from close range before Devon Kelly-Evans hit the rebound wide of Turner’s goal.

Burge was forced to make a save after Jack Earing rounded the shot stopper, however, he recovered to tighten the angle and push Earing’s shot wide of the post.

With the first-half very much a tale of two goalkeepers, both sides went into half time goalless.

Jeff King was heavily involved just after the break, first, his dipping free-kick was seen narrowly wide by Burge before from another set piece the midfielder found an unmarked Adeloye who headed over from six-yards.

On 61 minutes, the hosts took the lead. After the referee awarded a questionable free-kick, Coventry attacked down the left before City’s winger found Thomas at the back post who converted from close range.

With chances at a premium, substitute Dennis Politic saw his bending effort go just wide of the far post before Adeloye headed wide from White’s teasing cross. His strike proved to be the last chance of the game as Coventry ran out 1-0 winners.

Bolton: Turner, Percival, Muscatt, Edwards (C), Perry, King, Morris, Earing, Hall, Adeloye, White.

Subs: Aspinall, Navarro, Fearnley, Politic, Moulden.

What happened to the twins we had on trial? The one who started at Stockport and played at centre back looked a good prospect, hope we haven't let him go.
