BOLTON are in talks with Jack Rodwell about joining them after his disastrous spell at Sunderland.
Boss Phil Parkinson hopes to tempt Rodwell to Wanderers but he will have to take a cut on his huge salary.
Rodwell has been cursed by injury with the Black Cats, who want to pay him up and get his giant wage off their books.
Bolton could take Rodwell on a free after he appeared to sort out a severance deal, or take him on loan for the season.
Sunderland and Rodwell have reached an agreement to cancel his contract and the 27-year-old has been linked with a move to the MLS.
He was earning £73,000-a-week but that figure was reduced to £44,000 after the club's relegation to League One at the end of last season.
Sport24 had claimed the ex-Everton and Manchester City star was in talks with Greek Superleague side Aris.
Rodwell, who moved to the Stadium of Light in the summer of 2014, had not played for the club since September.
He made just two Championship appearances last season and was booed by his own fans during his only start at home to Sheffield United in September.
Rodwell is believed to have rejected the club’s offer to terminate his deal in January.
He was also expected to spend some time training with Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem that same month but that deal never came to fruition and he finished last season training with the club's Under-23s.
