Desperate to bounce back from the Burton Albion defeat in style, Phil Parkinson feels Wanderers have the beating of Cardiff City tomorrow, if they can discover their ruthless edge.

The disappointment of last weekend now behind them, the Whites’ boss points to fine margins that can make or break a match.

“Finishing is always key, we have to be clinical, make the goalkeepers work more and believe we’ve got more quality in and around that final third than we’ve shown last weekend,” he told The Bolton News.

“We have to have that ruthless edge about us when we get chances because at this level chances are few and far between, you’re not going to cut teams to ribbons time and time again.

“We had two or three moments [against Burton] where the ball’s gone over the bar or gone straight at the keeper and in those moments we’ve got to be tougher on ourselves.

“We’ve got lots of technical ability in the team, lots of good players, and we’ve got to do better in those moments in the game

“Whoever shows that little bit of quality to unlock the door will probably come out on top.

“Teams aren’t going to open up, it’s going to be tight, it’ll be nip and tuck, but when the moments do come we’ve got to make sure we’re the team that takes them.”

Parkinson did have a boost at Lostock with full-back Mark Little reporting for duty.

Little was taken off late in the game at Nottingham Forest and missed the Burton defeat but was back in training yesterday and, providing he suffers no reaction, will be in contention for a place in the team to face Cardiff.

“Mark Little has been back in full training,” revealed Parkinson. “I haven’t spoken to Matty Barrass after the training session, I’ll do that because we need to see if there’s any reaction but he has had an injection.

“It wasn’t his hamstring, it was a problem with his back, he had some discomfort in that area, so he seemed okay today but we’ll know more tomorrow.”

And dropping Pratley would be a bonus.
