WANDERERS will have to be patient before bringing Josh Cullen and Reece Burke back from West Ham on loan.
After featuring for the Premier League side in Sunday’s goalless FA Cup third round draw at Shrewsbury Town, it now remains to be seen whether they will stay in the captial or look to continue their progress with Whites.
A number of clubs had enquired about taking the two players on loan for the rest of the campaign but after playing for West Ham at the weekend, league rules state the only other club they can represent this season is Bolton.
Phil Parkinson had hoped to bring both players back immediately in time to face Brentford this weekend but has now had his plans dashed.
It is understood Burke and Cullen are wanted by David Moyes at least until he can bring in at least one more new signing – which according to reports yesterday could be Newcastle United’s Jonjo Shelvey or Arsenal Francis Coquelin.
Both Cullen and Burke could also feature in the replay next week but it is expected Wanderers will be given an indication in the next few days as to whether they will be sent out at all.
Cullen also required dental treatment after getting a stray boot in the face during the Shrewsbury game and will require another operation next week to stabilise the tooth – which was only rescued by a quick-thinking club doctor, who placed it in a glass of milk.
The 21-year-old returned to the pitch to play the last 15 minutes of the game with the tooth still missing but the wound packed with gauze.
“When I went off and after I’d had treatment, I was waiting for the kit man to get me a new pair of number 33 shorts from the dressing room and Stuart Pearce was encouraging me to go back on in my pants!” Cullen revealed. “He’s not the sort of guy you normally say ‘No’ to, but the fourth official put his arm across and wouldn’t let me.”
