The Wire took over my life for the couple of months it took me to get through it. It's awesome but it's not everybody's cup of tea - you can't drift for one minute because you will miss vital bits. The Sopranos is very similarly made and I love that too.
I also highly rate psychological crime drama thingies like Wire in the Blood and Cracker.

Like Hipster and Doffcocker I would nominate The Wire as the best TV series ever. It takes a bit of getting into and you may need to watch the first couple of episodes twice because the accents are so strong but it really is worth the effort.

Second best series: The Sopranos

The Wire is crap. Hated it. Only watched two episodes mind, maybe it got better Very Happy

Like Hipster, I could talk about tv all day.

This is what is currently on my Sky+:

Burn Notice, Falling Skies, Nikita, The Finder, A Gifted Man.

Favourite drama ever is probably Dexter, but I am also a massive fan of any Law & Order franchise.

I forgot Freaks & Geeks, Hipster's favourite programme that I shelled out £32 for the DVD. You must watch this. £35 and it's yours.

Keegan, what's Jamaican TV like? Is it full of homegrown or US stuff?

Jamaican TV is quite cosmopolitan - There's quite a bit of local programming, but we have shows like Generations - from South Africa, 24, Lost, Heroes, Gossip Girl and there's even a South Korean soap whose name escapes me now. Of course, there's the inescapable CSI:*. Mostly American programming though, in terms of movies and series. We also get some older comedies such as The Jamie Foxx Show, My Wife & Kids and others. All very boring. We have a few Jamaican series but they tend to not be my cup of tea.

That was Marcus Tandy sailing off into the sunset at the end of the last episode, with his quality Mexican bit of stuff, Pilar.

And the name of the boat was either the name of, or anagram of the BBC1 Director that axed the soap! - useless fact.

I reccomend

Spartacus - sky 1

Strike Back - Sky 1

Newsroom - Sky Atlantic

The Borgias - Sky Atlantic

The Hotel Inspector - Channel 5

Once upon A Time - Channel 5

The Grimms - Watch

Another vote for Game of Thrones, and the early series of 24 are pretty good.

I still think The Simpsons is worth watching.

I enjoy Family Guy and South Park too. At first when my sons were into them I didn't get it but now I think they are great. Still not into American Dad though - maybe in a couple of years.

More good comedy: Father Ted

Mich, just something that caught my eye in the news today, one of your former aliases was called 'Malcolm' - did you know that in the whole of the country last year only 11 little babies were named Malcolm!

Imagine in the whole of the country in one whole year just 11 Malcolms!

ONS figures show 22 babies born last year were named Derek

It's 1,158th on the baby name list, equal with Ace, Kofi and Om

But it beat Howard (10 babies born last year), Trevor (13), Keith (15), Malcolm (11) and Desmond (10)

Donald, perhaps buoyed by Mad Men, was given to 30 babies last year

They all beat Clive (4)

I know a person with the name of every single one of those names highlighted - just goes to show my age I guess
