Sounds interesting....

Bolton are to make an announcement about the future of Fabrice Muamba in the next couple of hours.

The midfielder, who collapsed during the FA Cup quarter-final at Tottenham in March, visited a heart specialist in Belgium last week to determine whether he could make a return to professional football.

As much as I want fabrice to come back and play, I wil feel slightly uncomfortable watching him again with niggling feeling in the back of my mind it could happen again, which I hope to god doesn't.

I think retiring would be the best option. It'd be difficult giving it 100% with it all at the back of your mind.

I hope this isn't true...

but at the end of the day he has a family to think of - they come first. If hes not happy playing anymore becasue of what happened then i understand and wish him all the best...

It is true. Officially.

He's retiring on doctors advise, so obviously it's the right decision.

Hope he's able to coach, or be involved with the club at academy level at least.

Bolton Wanderers announce that Fabrice Muamba has retired from playing professional football.

The decision has been made on the recommendation of his medical team, following extensive consultations with leading cardiologists both in the United Kingdom and Europe.

Muamba said: “Since suffering my heart attack and being discharged from hospital, I have remained utterly positive in the belief I could one day resume my playing career and play for Bolton Wanderers once again.

“As part of my on-going recovery, last week I travelled to Belgium to seek further medical advice from a leading cardiologist.

“But the news I received was obviously not what I had hoped it would be and it means I am now announcing my retirement from professional football.

“Football has been my life since I was a teenage boy and it has given me so many opportunities.

"Above all else, I love the game and count myself very lucky to have been able to play at the highest level.

“While the news is devastating, I have much to be thankful for.

“I thank God that I am alive and I pay tribute once again to the members of the medical team who never gave up on me.

“I would also like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my career, and the Bolton fans who have been incredible.

“I am blessed to have the support of my family and friends at this time.”

Chairman Phil Gartside said: “To have Fabrice here and with us is truly amazing and we are all very thankful for that.

“We are all hugely disappointed that Fabrice will be unable to return to his playing career but we have to be guided by the medical recommendations and the best interests of Fabrice.

“The most important thing is that Fabrice and his family have the rest of their lives ahead of them.”

Manager Owen Coyle said: “We have spoken with Fab and he knows we will always support him in whatever he wants to do and that we will always be here for him.

“He is obviously massively disappointed that he won’t be able to carry on his career, but everyone has seen what a fighter and strong person he is in mind and body.

“We know that he will go on to achieve great things and within all this disappointment, the most important thing is that he is here, alive, today.”

fair enough...

hes studying to be a Doctor apparently (not that honorary doctorate he was given I mean a real one) so maybe he will take up a medical role with the club?

I'm disappointed for him, not particularly for the club.

He's either one of the best players on the pitch or one of the worst - very effective or completely ineffective.

Better this way than to start to play again and then have a repeat of the events at White Hart Lane. That would be unforgivable on the part of BWFC.
I hope they find a role for him at the club- and a serious football one,not just glad handing corporate hospitality on match days

I wish him well, most of us knew that this day would come but he served our club well and I would echo what Doffcocker has said. Also, I am just glad his family still has him in their lives.

his little man still has a daddy... and will continue to have one, that's the most important thing im afraid.

terrible news for me - I was really looking forward to welcoming him back but if the doctors have advised him not to do so, they will have a valid reason and he would be stupid to ignore them.

Sad news for him as a player - great news that he is alive to be able to get bad news.

Not a surprise but sad news. Last season I thought with NRC, Holden, Muamba and Mark Davies that we had a cracking central midfield. What are we left with? A crocked Holden, Mark Davies and what's his face who played for Blackburn.

Good luck for teh future for Muamba and may he succeed in whatever profession he next takes, just like he succeeded in playing at footballs highest level.

Don't forget he also would have 0 chance of getting insured, unless it was for an astronomical fee, even if he could play.

I think we all knew really that he wouldn't play again, just happy hes ok
