Phil Parkinson has made an impassioned plea to Wanderers fans ahead of tonight’s crunch clash with Millwall.
The Whites boss has called for maximum backing from supporters coming to the Macron for the first of five games left for them to save their Championship skin.
Frustration from the weekend’s defeat at Derby County still hung heavy around the Lostock training ground in the build-up to the match.
But Parkinson has appealed for the most supportive atmosphere possible as his team seeks to avoid dropping into the relegation zone.
“I need the fans to be right behind us,” he told The Bolton News. “This is their club. We have five games left and every one of those supporters has got to forget the disappointment of the last couple of games and be ready to give everything again. We can’t let that linger.
“I just want to say that if there are mistakes, or things don’t quite go for us, people don’t pick the right pass, please just stay with the team.
“When I first came here the lads didn’t look forward to playing at home. We changed that and the fans have helped us, even when it has been difficult this season, they have stayed with us.
“The couple of games which stick in my mind was the Fulham game where we had a terrible start but the fans got right behind the team. They enabled us to get a draw against a very good side.
“I know people will say they respond to what’s on the pitch but in the Villa game I still think the support we had was absolutely tremendous.”
Wanderers have been handed a boost with the return to training of winger Fil Morais, who has missed the last two games with a thigh problem.
And Parkinson feels skipper Darren Pratley will be back sooner rather than later after nursing nerve damage in his shin.
“If it’s a sprained ankle there’s a clear time-frame," he said. "But with this nerve injury we just don’t know. It’s difficult to say when it gets better.
“We have tried everything – injections, rest, but I think slowly but surely he is getting there."
