Craig Noone feels Wanderers are well capable of wrecking Wolves’ Championship coronation on Saturday.
Few give Bolton a prayer at the Macron, where a point would be enough to guarantee the Black Country boys the league title ahead of Cardiff City.
But after spending most of the season as heavy underdogs, Phil Parkinson’s side have an survival agenda of their own and could claim an unexpected boost if they can keep ahead of Barnsley and claim a positive result.
“The most important thing at the moment is that it’s in our hands,” said Noone. “Wolves isn’t an easy one, is it? They have been the best team in the league this year, that’s why it’s a tough one, but I think we’ve shown we can beat anyone at home – Villa, Bristol City, Cardiff. Anything is possible.”
Noone hopes his own season highlight at Wanderers is still to come.
Although his first goal in Bolton colours did not prove to be the winner at Barnsley on Saturday the former Cardiff City winger feels he can still make a big impression on the final three games of the campaign.
“It’s taken a while to get into the team,” said the 30-year-old. “But I’ve always kept my head down, kept working hard and hopefully that time I’ve been working away will help come the end of the season.
“I hope I’ll be playing but it’s up to the gaffer, whatever happens, happens. I’ve been around long enough to realise it’s a team game, no one does anything on their own.”
Saturday’s late drama at Barnsley left the Wanderers dressing room with mixed emotions but Noone is confident they can take enough from the performance to head into this weekend’s game in a positive frame of mind.
“I think for a few minutes the lads’ heads were down,” he said. “But then we spoke about the character we’d shown to get back into the game, to come from a goal down, and I think it could be a really big point.”
Parkinson feels Noone could make an impact in the big games to come.
“He’s got quality, Craig, he’s had a frustrating time since he’s been here, a lot of it is because Sammy (Ameobi) has played on the right, he’s found it difficult to get a place but he has a record of producing and that’s why he‘s played at the top level,” he said.
