WANDERERS attempted to sign Charlton Athletic defender Patrick Bauer AFTER sorting a deal for Josh Magennis, it has been claimed.
Addicks boss Lee Bowyer revealed that both Bolton and Blackburn failed to come up with the right offer for the 25-year-old centre-back, who is now expected to be offered a new contract.
Striker Magennis is expected to complete his £200,000 move to Wanderers early this week but will not be joined by his team-mate at The Valley, Bowyer said.
“Pat is not going,” he told The South London Press. “The owner told Blackburn and Bolton what he wants for Pat and they are not going to pay what we are asking.
“Pat knows that. Pat has been offered a new deal and he is thinking about that at the moment.
“Bolton tried to take him as well after Josh. They made a deal with Josh and tried to do it with Pat as well.
“But on Saturday I had an email from the owner saying that Pat is staying. He said that Pat is a massive part of our defence and we need to keep him because he improves our chances of promotion.
“I’m over the moon about it. By keeping Pat he is showing what he wants from us this season.”
Blackburn’s failure to sign Bauer could also have an impact on Wanderers, with Rovers known to have sussed out Mark Beevers as a potential alternative.
Ken Anderson has confirmed to The Bolton News at the weekend he has no plans to sell Beevers amid rumour Scottish club Rangers could also be preparing a bid.
