QUALITY costs, but Wanderers’ spending has also brought in plenty of a precious commodity – character.

Phil Parkinson’s side showed great togetherness last season and, while there has been a raft of personnel changes at the University of Bolton Stadium, the Whites boss insists the new arrivals have impressed him on and off the field.

“We’ve got good lads in, the quality level I feel has gone up, but we’ve got good characters,” he told The Bolton News. “The reason for that is we haven’t signed anyone who didn’t want to be here. Every player that’s come has had a real desire to come and join us. That is very important to us. All the lads who came here wanted to be here and they’re ready to roll their sleeves up.

“We can just concentrate on the game now and we’ll take stock of the loan situation over the weekend.

“Bristol City are a good side and had to make changes. They played well last week against Nottingham Forest and were unlucky not to win the game. But they’ll be there and thereabouts this season.”

Parkinson revealed Sammy Ameobi is a doubt to feature this afternoon due to a hip injury but Clayton Donaldson and Gary O’Neil have trained this week and may be available.
