Phil Parkinson is expected to make several changes to the team which drew 2-2 with Bristol City on Saturday, bringing up to speed some of the players who have been waiting in the wings.
But as winger, Noone, observes, the potential line-up at Elland Road is not without its strengths – an indication, perhaps, of the growing depth within the squad.
“You do tend to find in the early stages of the cup that managers make changes,” he told The Bolton News. “We could end up making lots but there are some very good players waiting to come in.
“There’s competition in most positions now and not a lot to choose between the ones who are in the team, and those who are on the bench or not even involved.
“Some of the boys who get that chance against Leeds will be looking to impress and try to keep their place in the team.”
With Sammy Ameobi still nursing a hip injury it seems Noone could be asked to play back-to-back games on the right side of Wanderers’ attack.
The lack of options in central midfield also points to one or more of Jason Lowe, Josh Vela or Leeds old-boy Luke Murphy starting the game.
But some of last season’s key players – most notably Adam Le Fondre and Mark Little – will feel this is a chance to show they should be involved from the start at Reading on Saturday.
Noone found himself on the outside looking in for much of last season but hopes he has now got his foot in the door for regular selection.
“It was hard last season at times but you try to do a job for the team and take your chances when they come,” he said. “Nobody likes being out of the team, especially at the start of the season, but I’m feeling fit and strong at the moment so hopefully I can stay in there.”
Regardless of the personnel, Noone feels Wanderers can continue their early season menace at set pieces, having sought to improve over the summer months.
“It’s a big strength,” he said. “We work hard on set pieces, this season and last. Thursdays and Fridays are about knowing what you are doing, so it’s a strength for us.”
