Wanderers’ Under-18s narrowly missed out on the U18 Professional Development League North title after they lost 1-0 to Leeds United at the Eddie Davies Academy at Lostock on Saturday morning.
Both teams came out looking to break each other down, with Dennis Politic firing from distance early on to try and open the scoring for Nicky Spooner’s side.
Ten minutes into the game and Wanderers were awarded a penalty after Jordan Boon was fouled in the area, only for the decision to be overturned by the linesman.
Midway through the first half and Leeds took the lead through a Hoskun Temeuzkov header.
Straight from the restart, Wanderers started the brighter with Luca Connell charging through the Leeds defence, beating three defenders but was unable to beat their goalkeeper.
In the second half, Bolton started to take the majority of the possession but couldn’t breakdown a very resolute Leeds back line.
This result forces the Under-18s into second place in the U18 Professional Development League North standings, where they will play Crystal Palace in an away tie in the play-offs.
Bolton: James, Jones-Griffiths, Preston, Fearnley, Hartsthorne, Boon, Moore, Connell, Brown, Politic, Navarro
Subs: Darcy, Smith, Edmondson, Sterling, Comber
