Always hated this fixture even before watching us get relegated there a few seasons back.
They've been shit this season, which is unacceptable given the players they've got and surely they'll come good sooner or later? Hopefully not tomorrow night.
If we can score first, they may panic even though they have quality all over the shop.
That said, I think that on our game we have enough to get something out of it.
I'm thinking 1 - 1 if it all goes to plan.

Wonder if Dyer will get a run out? Difficult seeing as Noone and Buckley upped their game v Derby. Bench I reckon, but where does that leave Wildschut?

Preview: Stoke City v Bolton Wanderers

Bolton Wanderers take on Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium on Tuesday evening in the Sky Bet Championship. With that being said, bwfc.co.uk picked out five talking points ahead of this away league fixture.

1. Injury News

After the victory against Derby County this past weekend, assistant manager Steve Parkin alluded to potentially having some “bumps and bruises” to have a look at on Monday.

When speaking to manager Phil Parkinson however, he told bwfc.co.uk that his squad came through unscaved.

When asked how the squad is looking, the manager said: “Everybody is fine and nobody missed training this (Monday) morning.

“We have got everybody who was available from the weekend to select from.”

2. Gary Rowett

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

After the end of the 2017/18 season, Rowett was appointed manager of Stoke City after leaving Derby County.

After a playing career spanning 16 years, Rowett had a brief stint in the media before joining Burton Albion’s coaching staff in 2009, before taking over the managerial reigns permanently in May 2012.

He led the Brewers to fourth in League Two in his first season, along with reaching a play-off semi-final.

Following on from his time in Burton, Rowett has had spells with Birmingham City and Derby County, before arriving at the Potters for the start of this season.

During this campaign, Stoke currently sit 17th in the Sky Bet Championship, with ten points on the board.

Playing at home, they have picked up seven points from a possible 15 available.

3. New faces in Stoke on Trent

After his appointment, new boss Rowett took to the transfer market and brought in some new blood to the bet365 Stadium.

Midfielders Tom Ince and James McClean were brought in on permanent deals from Huddersfield Town and West Bromwich Albion respectively, along with former Wanderers man Benik Afobe who signed from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Afobe spent time with the Whites in the 2012/13 season, scoring three times in 28 appearances for the club.

Currenty, the Dr Congo international is the top goal scorer for the Potters, with five goals in all competitions from 12 games.

Looking to the loan market and Everton defensive duo of Ashley Williams and Cuco Martina have been brought in until the end of the season

4. Game to remember

Wanderers’ fans, we take you back to the January 1997, playing at Stoke’s Victoria Ground in the First Division.

Colin Todd’s Bolton side travelled to Stoke to take on Lou Macari’s men as Wanderers were coming off the back off six games unbeaten.

Six soon went to seven as goals from Jamie Pollock and John McGinlay secured the points in a 2-1 win with a packed out away stand full of Whites’ fans.

This result was in the special 1996/97 season for Wanderers, as they won the First Division with 98 points on the board, with over 100 goals scored in the process.

5. No Pay on the Day

Wanderers’ fans are advised that this fixture is all ticket and no tickets will be sold on the day of the fixture.

We have received an allocation of 2,329 tickets for tonight’s trip to the bet365 Stadium.

Phone lines are now shut for Wanderers’ fans to purchase tickets from Bolton Central or online, but supporters' are reminded that they can watch the fixture via the red button on Sky Sports.

Don’t fancy us tonight, Stoke play a similar game but with better players so think we’ll struggle.

My heart sank when I saw Parky had started with 4 attacking players, has he become Owen Coyle? Why on earth start with a more attacking team away at Stoke than at home to QPR and Sheff Utd?
The success at WBA and Reading was due to  solid defending from more negative team selections, not sending them out  with 2 wingers and OZ.
Pick the attacking players at home, not away from home against a  team with far better -players.

Report: Stoke City 2-0 Bolton Wanderers

Bolton Wanderers were defeated by Stoke City at the Bet365 Stadium 2-0 in the Sky Bet Championship.

Team News

One change for Phil Parkinson’s men from their victory against Derby County on Saturday, seeing David Wheater missing out and Marc Wilson coming into the starting eleven after serving his suspension.

First Half

A Will Buckley cross early on was deflected by Ryan Woods into the path of Josh Magennis, who was six yards out but couldn’t get it under control and miskicked his shot.

Minutes later and Wanderers keeper Remi Matthews was called into action, as a Tom Ince thunderbolt came from 20 yards out forcing a strong save from the Norwich City loanee.

Stoke had the lead on nine minutes through Bruno Martins Indi

A Tom Ince corner was looped into the area to find an unmarked Martins Indi, who nodded the ball into the Wanderers net.

Quarter of an hour into the game and Benik Afobe could have made it 2-0 to the home side.

Cuco Martina provided a cross from the right into the area, finding the former Wanderers striker. From there, he spun on the six yard box and sliced his shot over the bar.

A free kick to Stoke was next to come close, as Tom Ince struck a curling freekick that narrowly missed the target.

Just before the half hour mark and Tom Ince found Saido Berahino in space in the Whites penalty area.

He jinked to his left, but a superb diving challenge from Pawel Olkowski averted the dangerous threat he posed.

Moments later and Ince was back at it for the Potters. After some intricate passing play, he lined up a driven shot along the floor which Matthews saved with ease.

Second Half

Five minutes into the second half and another Tom Ince free kick tested the hand strength of Matthews. The winger got his strike up and over the wall but the Whites shot stopper was equal to it as he tipped it out of play.

Craig Noone was proving quite the menace down the right for Wanderers, as he cut inside with the ball and fired goalward. However, Stoke and England goalkeeper Jack Butland was up to the task and saved the Liverpudlian’s shot.

Afobe was at it again for the Potters, as Erik Pieters squared the ball to the Congolese frontman, who stung the gloves of Matthews as he dropped down on the ball to claim at the second chance.

Bolton did have the ball in the Potters’ goal, with an Erhun Oztumer cross finding the head of Josh Magennis to crash the ball past Butland.

Unfortunately for him, he was harshly adjudged to have fouled Ashley Williams in the area.

The man nicknamed “Turkish Messi” grew in confidence and nearly had a goal to celebrate for his efforts.

Shrugging off two challenges from oncoming Stoke defenders to shoot from distance, narrowly missing the bottom left corner.

On the 74 minute mark and Stoke had their second through Tom Ince.

Substitute James McClean wriggled his way down the left flank, finding Ince with his cross and the former Crystal Palace man did the rest as he rifled home past Matthews at the near post.

Wanderers nearly had a way back into the tie through sub Yanic Wildschut.

A lovely cross from Olkwoski was knocked away as far as the Dutchman, who struck it on the full volley.

Stoke were alert to the chance however, as they threw bodies on the line to block the firmly struck shot.

Martins Indi nearly had the home side’s third before the end, latching onto an Ince cross but deflected his effort wide.

Full Time

Wanderers XI: Matthews, Lowe (C), Oztumer, Buckley (Wildschut 60), Noone (Donaldson 72), Hobbs, Olkowski, Wilson, J Williams, Magennis (Doidge 72), Grounds

Unused substitutes: B. Williams, Vela, O’Neil, Wheater
