Wanderers emerged empty-handed from their home derby with Blackburn Rovers - but how did the players rate?
WANDERERS (4-2-3-1)
REMI MATTHEWS… 6 Long spells of the game where he could have broken out the Thermos and had a cup of tea. But made a decent save in the second half from Armstrong.
PAWEL OLKOWSKI… 6.5 Saw more of the ball than anyone else in a Wanderers shirt and looked to be positive in possession. It didn’t all come off, especially his crossing.
DAVID WHEATER… 7 Positioning was good, looked comfortable, not really a tough afternoon in the end for either centre-half with just Danny Graham for company.
JACK HOBBS… 7.5 Continued his excellent vein of recent form and added a touch of class in possession as well, never panicking and playing the ball out with composure.
JONATHAN GROUNDS… 4.5 The stadium was screaming for him to make a challenge – fair or otherwise – after getting caught out of position for Blackburn’s goal. Must do better than this.
JASON LOWE… 6.5 Compact in possession, as ever, and had an extra incentive to do well against his boyhood club. Didn’t quite come off – but a decent show.
JOE WILLIAMS… 7 Like Lowe, you can’t fault the work-rate or effort of the Everton youngster. Both bossed a busy midfield but needed something to happen in front of them.
CRAIG NOONE… 5 Worked hard up and down the wing and combined well with Olkowski but the final ball just wasn’t there. Seemed too keen to cut in field.
ERHUN OZTUMER… 6.5 Expended every ounce of energy for the cause but not necessarily in the areas Phil Parkinson would want him. Winning fans over with his work-rate.
WILL BUCKLEY… 4.5 Got one chance but really didn’t make an impact on the game. A much, much better player than he has shown in the last couple of games.
JOSH MAGENNIS… 6.5 So, so close to a goal. Can’t fault the big striker for effort, just needs something to drop for him at the moment.
Subs: Wildschut 46 (for Buckley) 4.5 – Disappointing. Lacked composure.
Dyer 67 (for Noone) 5.5 – Couldn’t inspire a comeback.
Doidge 78 (for Grounds) – Tripped for the disallowed penalty
Not used: Vela, Wilson, O’Neil, B Williams
Blackburn (4-2-3-1): Raya, Bennett, Lenihann, Mulgrew, D Williams, Rodwell, Reed; Palmer, Dack, Rothwell; Graham.
