Connor Hall has not given up hope of returning in goal-scoring form to Wanderers this season.
The young striker, on loan at League One Accrington, is targeting a profitable December in an effort to impress Bolton boss Phil Parkinson.
Hall - who scored his first senior goals in the Checkatrade Trophy against Blackpool last week – feels he made the right decision to head out on loan at the end of August.
After scoring 23 goals for David Lee's Under-23 team last season Parkinson sent the former Sheffield United academy graduate out to gain more first team exposure.
Wanderers have suffered in front of goal this season, scoring just twice in 15 hours of football in the Championship. And though the confident youngster knows he must first secure a regular start with the Reds – he would relish the chance to return and bolster Parkinson’s strike force in the New Year.
“It’s one step at a time,” he told The Bolton News. “I’m not sure I would have played at the start of this season so I can’t say whether I would or wouldn’t have made a difference to what is happening right now.
“The gaffer thought the best thing for me was to go out on loan, and I agreed with him.
“But if I can do well between now and January, score a few more goals, it would be great to get a call-back and try to score a few for Wanderers.”
Hall has featured regularly off the bench for Accrington, whose established strikers Billy Kee and Offrande Zanzala have been in rude form this season.
“I have really enjoyed the experience so far,” he said. “I think League One is probably the highest level I could have gone to from Bolton. I feel like when I have played, I’ve played well. Obviously, ideally, I’d like to play more than I am at the moment but that’s life as a footballer. You want to play every game.
“I’d like to get a few starts in the league, a couple of goals to boost my confidence, and see where I could go from there.
“But I understand I have got to bide my time. The team has done well and it has kicked on another level since I have been there as well. The strikers have been in form and scoring goals so it hasn’t been easy for me to come into the team right away.
“I think once I earn myself a start in the league I can go from there.”
