West Brom fans are threatening to boycott next month’s Championship game at Bolton over ticket prices.
Adult away tickets for the match, which was moved last week to the evening of Monday, January 21 for coverage on Sky Sports, will currently cost £32.
It is understood Wanderers are now considering a discount deal for season ticket holders – but exact details were unavailable as The Bolton News went to press.
Reaction to the original pricing on social media has been critical with fans group Albion Fanatics backing those who choose not to travel in a post on Twitter which has since gone viral with more than 1,000 likes.
“After listening to feedback from the fans we decided to come out and say we’re behind you if you choose not to go to this game, there won’t be any judgement passed by us,” said Andy Gulch, who has run the Albion fanatics social media account the last six years. “A game we had at Ipswich recently was changed to a Friday night and the club reduced its prices to £10. That might have been a bit extreme, in fairness, but they ended up getting more than 20,000 there on a Friday night.
“I appreciate we were able to offer Bolton £20 away tickets earlier this season because of our parachute payments and can’t expect everyone to follow but when you are getting £100,000 from Sky for a televised game the prices seem greedy.”
Wanderers have come under fire from visiting fans from Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic this season for charging category A prices.
They are now investigating their options, with travelling fan numbers currently forecast to be just 500.
