Wanderers face a defensive headache ahead of tomorrow night’s six-pointer against Reading.
Phil Parkinson confirmed that goalkeeper Ben Alnwick and defenders David Wheater, Mark Beevers and Marc Wilson are all significant doubts to start at the University of Bolton Stadium.
Youngsters Luca Connell and Joe Pritchard – who made their full debuts against Bristol City in the FA Cup on Friday – are both in the squad.
“They are bonus players for us,” Parkinson said. “We rested quite a few on Friday, or had to leave them out for different reasons, but we have now got a few injury concerns.
“Ben has a problem with his back, Wheater has jarred his knee, Beevers has a problem with his Achilles which he’s having a scan on and Marc Wilson has a problem with his thigh.
“After being OK for defensive options we’re down to bare bones for this one. But we’ll pick a team to get a result.”
Parkinson is still hoping to add to his squad before Thursday’s deadline but admits he may now be looking towards the loan market.
“Getting rid of the embargo has given us the options of bringing one or two players in,” he said. “We are working towards that and if it happens, great, but if it doesn’t we have the bonus of the youngsters adding to the squad.
“As always in this situation you have managers saying ‘yeah, he can come to you but we’re not letting you know until the last day because we’re trying to get someone in’. Others we have spoken to have got two or three options.
“I met one yesterday and it would be a great signing for us if we get him but he has got other options.
“Quite a few teams got their rearranged games cancelled because of the transfer window but we have got to make sure we focus on Reading.”
