Steve Parkin reckons the togetherness which helped seal survival last season against the odds is also Wanderers’ best bet this time around.

Hopes are fading among supporters that Bolton can drag themselves to safety, following a run of one win in the last 20 games.

Assistant boss Parkin refuses to concede the team’s fate, however, and says a sense of unity within the squad will be important in the final third of the campaign.

“It’s about being as positive as we can. It’s making sure players train properly and we’re paid to organise. We know how tough the division is and we have seen how many teams have strengthened in January. It’s as tough a league as any in the world.

“The strength in depth that other clubs have got, we would like. But we haven’t got it, we have got to keep showing the determination to try and win the next game.

“We have to do what we did last season, take it right to the wire, we have got to do everything we can to stay up.

“It’s important we don’t get our heads down too much. We totally accept the frustration of the supporters. It’s a tough year for us but last year was a tough year as well but we came through it and we have to do it again.”

Asked if the squad had enough quality to stay up, Parkin said the squad could compensate for the lack of financial muscle.

“To fill your squad with real quality it costs a lot of money,” he said. “There’s no getting away from the fact.

“It’s quite alarming in the Championship how much strength these teams have got. We haven’t got it, so we have got to rely on spirit and organisation, making sure we stay in games as long as we can and ultimately making sure we do win some football matches in the next couple of weeks.”

Last year we had a good midfielder in Karl Henry, and a striker who could turn a game in Le Fondre.

This year we have Clayton Donaldson.

This year we have 0 or 1 shot on target. Hard to win with that statistic.

And therein lays the problem, that statement alone gives you the proof needed to tell you they set up for draws, and hoping to sneak a goal on the break, there's no attacking mentality within the two of them, and the reason they should be fucked off pronto, get them on gardening leave and elevate Lee and Darby to first team duties, that way it won't cost slimeball any more money.
