Bolton Wanderers Under-23s shared the points with their Barnsley counterparts in a six-goal thriller at the County Ground, Leyland on Monday evening.
First Half
Barnsley started off the brighter in this clash, with an Elvis Otim ball into the area finding a teammate, but they were unable to get a shot away and test Jake Turner in the Wanderers goal.
Following on and Bolton had a chance of their own, as Joe Muscatt played an incisive ball into Joe Pritchard, who took a touch and fired just over the Tykes' crossbar.
Matthew Wolfe began to cause trouble for Barnsley, as an effort on goal looked certain to be heading into the goal, but a Chiori Johnson block in the area stopped the path of the ball.
Muscatt found himself in space on the left flank and was able to produce a superb cross into the area to find Tanimowo, who couldn't direct his header goalwards.
Barnsley went ahead midway through the first period however as a corner into the area found Jordan Williams at the near post, who nodded home from close range.
Williams nearly followed up with another goal from a freekick, but an excellent double save from Jake Turner halted the chances of that occurring.
Wanderers fullback Johnson stopped another goal from going in for the visitors, as the Barnsley striker chipped Turner from just inside the area, but the defender got back and cleared the danger as the first half drew to its conclusion.
Second Half
A Pritchard corner kick resulted in a goalmouth scramble between the sides, with the visitors coming out on top and diverting the ball to safety.
Just over 20 minutes from the end of the game however, and it kicked into life.
A crossfield ball into the path of winger DJ Buffonge, who charged into the area before coolly slotting the ball across the goalkeeper.
Four minutes after that and Wanderers went into the lead, as Pritchard brought down a long ball over the top of the Tykes' defence before placing the ball between goalkeeper Walton's legs and putting David Lee's into the lead.
And the Trotters went two goals ahead with eight minutes of regulation to play, as skipper Brockbank plays in Johnson down the right flank.
The fullback hits the byline before hitting a low cross into the six yard area for Tanimowo to finish off at the second attempt.
But the Tykes weren't going down without a fight, as they got one back through a deflected effort from Chris Sang that left Jake Turner unable to stop the flight of the ball.
And before long, Barnsley had found the equaliser through Amir Berkovits as a long ball into the channel saw the second half substitute lob Wanderers' goalkeeper Turner and find the back of the net to earn a point for the visiting side.
Full Time
Wanderers XI: Turner, Johnson, Muscatt, Zouma, Warren, Brockbank (C), Buffonge, Davis, Tanimowo, Pritchard, Brown
Substitutes: Darcy, Aspinall, Earing, Hartshorne, Navarro
