WANDERERS have been urged to get their takeover across the line by the EFL.
After months of dialogue between league chiefs, administrators and club officials in regard to the sale of the club, pressure is now being applied to get the deal done as quickly as possible.
Fans have been waiting anxiously for several weeks for the Football Ventures consortium – picked out by administrators as preferred bidders for the football club – to complete a sale.
But their desire to buy the hotel alongside the club has delayed matters considerably, wrecked pre-season plans and cast doubt over whether Wanderers will be fully operational by the time they start the season in just 10 days’ time.
The EFL has maintained contact with all parties to try and seek a solution but, for the first time, a statement has now been released by the league’s new executive chair, Debbie Jevans, stressing that all involved must seek a successful and sustainable solution.
“The ongoing situation at Bolton Wanderers remains a significant concern for the EFL and we will continue our efforts with the Administrators to find a solution,” Jevans said.
“I urge all interested parties to work diligently together in order to reach a successful conclusion as soon as possible with the season fast approaching.”
Since the start of the week, talk within the takeover camp has been positive, with the deal described in several media outlets as “imminent”.
But supporters, unpaid players and coaching staff have had their fair share of false hope over the past 10 weeks since Wanderers were put into administration, prompting the league to make a public statement.
Wanderers have just half a dozen contracted players, some of which have handed in their notice and sought to leave the club.
Several out-of-contract players are training at Lostock and took part in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Bradford City yesterday and would be ready to sign up at short notice once the takeover goes ahead.
