The four options left for Bolton Wanderers in takeover saga

IT has been easy to get lost in the maze of claim and counter-claim involved at Bolton Wanderers this last few months but the picture has now been made startingly clear this weekend.
Put simply, without a deal to sell the club materialising in the next few days 145-years of history could go down the drain.

At this stage there are four obvious options.
Administrators identified Ken Anderson as the notable absentee in the parties agreeing a deal to sell the club and the Bolton Whites Hotel on Friday night.

The former Bolton owner denies their claim – pointing the finger of blame at Keir Gordon, the solicitor who has been responsible for the affairs of the late Eddie Davies.

Either way, should one or both parties revert to the position everyone was in on Friday night, the deal can go ahead with Football Ventures and the EFL will be satisfied.

Option two assumes that Anderson is indeed at odds with the Eddie Davies Trust, and that he succeeds in getting what he needs from the “commercial dispute” which first became public on Saturday morning.

Option three – and by far the most romantic of the bunch – is that someone emerges with a cash offer for both club and hotel.

It has been well-reported that the Kamani family, owners of the BooHoo.com online fashion website have been in advanced negotiations to buy the hotel. Their interest in the club has been denied via social media, for what that is worth, but that has not stopped rumours that they would like the lot.

If a cash bid is made for the whole operation it would enable the administrators more leverage to push the deal through in a way that Football Ventures’ structured deal cannot.

The title of ‘preferred bidder’ is a moot one, at present, for the FV consortium. And if proof of funding has already been shown by BooHoo to the hotel’s administrators, Quantuma, to enable them to reach advanced stages of discussions the second half of the deal must logically be a simple one.

It is understood the club’s administrators have made contact with the BooHoo group since the FV bid stalled on Friday night but, at time of writing, had received nothing back.

Locally-based and worth in excess of £1billion, the Kamani family would unquestionably have the resources to end any lingering worries for Wanderers fans, if indeed the rumours are to be believed.

The final, and quite unpalatable option is liquidation. To see Bolton – a founder member of the Football League – having to reapply in the non-league ladder for next season and have their assets sold to pay-off creditors would surely be the biggest travesty the English game has ever seen. It simply must not be allowed to happen.

So Ken Anderson, Kier Gordon, Football Ventures, the Kamani family, both sets of administrators, please regard the options above. The clock is ticking.
