Wanderers are due to take another look at former Derby County midfielder Timi Elsnik.
David Flitcroft admits the Slovenian, who worked with him at Swindon Town and Mansfield Town, is still some way short of match fitness.
Elsnik played against Crewe for the development squad on Monday night and, revealed the Bolton assistant, had trained with the club last month before picking up an injury.
“He came in at the start, our first week, but went over on his ankle and went back home,” he told The Bolton News.
“He then did three sessions last week, played the game, but he hasn’t had a pre-season and unfortunately he missed another three weeks with the injury so he’s behind on where he needs to be.
“He’s someone I’ve worked with before, a very good football player, but we haven’t seen the best of him yet and certainly Hilly hasn’t seen the best of him either.
“We’ll have another look at him but he’s a good way off being game-ready. Probably 30 per cent away from where he needs to be.”
