Wanderers have been forced to shelve Ronan Darcy’s first-team comeback from injury after the midfielder failed to come through a training session on Friday.
The 19-year-old had been given painkilling injections in his foot to aid his route back into League One action and was pencilled in to start on the bench at MK Dons on Saturday.
Keith Hill confirmed Darcy would not be involved in the squad at Blackpool tomorrow night after the problem flared up once again.
“We had a big setback with Ronan,” he told The Bolton News. “He is just not quite ready on the training pitch.
“I felt he would have been a great player to have brought on as a replacement for Ali Crawford.
“He definitely won’t be ready for Blackpool. It’s a shame because I thought we would have him available.
“We didn’t take a gamble but he was ready to go Thursday, he had a fitness test and trained Friday and broke down.
“It’s sad for Ronan but he’s got a long and prosperous career in front of him and we’re looking forward to getting him back.”
Wanderers’ worst-ever start to a calendar year continued at Stadium MK, where Rhys Healy’s goal was enough to send them to a fourth successive defeat.
Pressure on Hill to salvage some pride from what is looking an inevitable slide into League Two is now higher than ever – but the Bolton boss insists he is up for the fight.
“I can’t be a victim of the circumstances or the situation or the fact we have won one in 12, or whatever,” he said. “I won’t be a victim and I’ll look forward to the future with the group of players we’ve got.
“There’s a lot of fatigue in this group of players and some who have played games that they would not have done in previous seasons. We have had one or two injuries and we don’t know if they will be available for Tuesday.
“That’s the difficulty but we have got a season to complete. We want to make sure that if there is any negativity that we leave it in this season, we don’t want to carry it into next season.
“We want to be proud of our football club, our supporters and make sure that we collectively show that pride in how we work.”
