Wanderers could be ordered to play their games behind closed doors imminently, national reports have stated.
With the number of coronavirus cases increasing significantly on Wednesday, the government has called a meeting of their Cobra committee this lunchtime.
An article in The Times newspaper claims the UK will move from the ‘contain’ phase of the virus action plan to the ‘delay’ phase – which could include social distancing measures which would prohibit large gatherings.
Several competitions across Europe have ordered that games be played behind closed doors and the report says the Premier League and EFL could follow suit as early as today.
Some leading figures in the game are also calling for the league to be put on hiatus as the country tries to get to grips with the outbreak.
Wanderers host Peterborough United this Saturday and while preparations for the game continue unchecked at present, the club say they are waiting on guidance from the league before taking any further steps.
“The well-being of our staff and supporters is of our utmost concern and we are in constant dialogue with the relevant authorities regarding this ongoing situation,” Wanderers said this week.
