We’ve picked out ten pieces of information to help you get to know a little bit more about our first new signing of the summer, Eoin Doyle.

1. Beginning his senior career in his native Republic of Ireland with the likes of Shelbourne, Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers, his first move away from the Emerald Isle came in December 2011 when he signed for Scottish Premier League side Hibernian.

2. During his first full campaign in Scotland with Hibernian, Doyle scored 11 goals in 41 appearances, including a late brace in a 3-1 away victory against Kilmarnock. As a result of his success north of the border, Doyle secured a first move into the English game when he signed for Chesterfield in May 2013.

3. Doyle scored 13 goals during his first season with Chesterfield (2013/14) under the management of Paul Cook who also managed him across the Irish Sea with Sligo Rovers. The Spireites secured the League Two title and promotion to League One.

4. Scoring a remarkable 25 goals for Chesterfield during the first half of the 2014/15 season, he subsequently secured a move to the Championship with Cardiff City towards the end of the January transfer window.

5. His first hat-trick in the English game came in a 4-1 home victory against Scunthorpe United in September 2014 and his second hat-trick came just THREE days later in a 3-3 draw against Preston North End at Deepdale.

6. Managing 5 goals during his first three months in the Welsh capital, Doyle managed a hugely impressive total of 30 goals for the 2014/15 campaign – a career best total for the Irish striker.

7. Doyle signed for Preston North End in a permanent deal early in the 2015/16 season and scored the winner against Bolton Wanderers at the previously named Macron Stadium, popping up in the 86th minute to secure a 2-1 victory in the Lancashire Derby.

8. The Irishman notched another promotion on his CV come the end of the 2016/17 season with League One bound Portsmouth. Joining the Hampshire club on loan from Preston in January 2017, he scored twice in 12 appearances as Paul Cook guided his team to the title.

9. Despite the 2019/20 season effectively ending in March, Doyle still managed 25 goals for Swindon Town last season with his goals per game ratio for the Robins not too far short of a goal per game. His season best total of 30 may well have been matched or bettered had Swindon played out their remaining games.

10. Securing his latest promotion with Swindon with a points per game total handing them the title, he has been part of three teams who have successfully claimed the League Two title – Chesterfield, Portsmouth and of course most recently, Swindon.
