Eoin Doyle expects to hit the goal trail at Wanderers – with a little help from his friends.
Fresh from opening his summer account with a rocket at Atherton Colls at the weekend, the Irish striker is optimistic he can find the same sort of form for Bolton as he did for Swindon last season.
Doyle scored 25 goals in 28 games for the Robins and is already licking his lips in anticipation having played alongside the likes of Ali Crawford and Antoni Sarcevic in training over the last fortnight.
“You can tell there’s going to be chances created in this team,” he told The Bolton News. “As a striker you can’t ask for anything more. The rest is up to me.
“I’m confident I’ll get goals – but they are not all going to be spectacular like that one. I tend to get more from closer in.
“I’ve got great confidence that this will be a goalscoring team. You can already see that there are players in the squad who can spot a pass, create a chance, and that will only get better as time goes on.”
Doyle was impressed by Crawford in his first opportunity to play alongside the Scottish playmaker at the Skuna Stadium on Saturday.
“He’s got a great eye, can see the runs I am making and stuff, so as a striker that’s exciting,” he said. “I’m sure I’ll make those little relationships as time goes on but he’s clearly a player that can spot a pass and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Preparations for the new season started early at Wanderers and life at the training ground has been restricted by strict protocols laid down by the EFL to limit the risk of coronavirus spread.
As such, it has not been a typical pre-season so far for the squad, but Doyle believes the squad is already starting to make some progress after two weeks back.
“It has been a really tough two weeks, to be honest,” he said. “They have really put us through our paces and worked on fitness. I think the lads comfortably did 45 minutes and then we’ll step that up game by game now to get more minutes in us.
“We’re slowly getting there. I wouldn’t mind being able to get a shower after training, or not eating my lunch in the car, but it’s okay. Hopefully soon it will be back to normality.
“We just have to get on with it, do as much as we can to get ready for the start of next season.”
