Tend to agree, the defence has been a shambles for too long, this is probably a step in the right direction - although I'd have said a right-back was more important.

Clearly he's desperate for football, really hope he has an impact, on his day he's a good player.

He'll certainly offer more coming forward.

Good move from coyle IMO, for one reason or another he went rapidly off the boil at villa.
Fingers crossed this works out.

It's only a three month deal so if it's a disaster no harm done.
If it's good maybe we can extend.

More the merrier ...... can't do us any harm.
He scored 4 goals in 104 games .....that's almost as good as SKD .....let's play him at center forward.

He's a good signing for us. It's a pity he can't come in and be a player manager for 3 months.

It seems to be attackers that are most vulnerable to the Coyle cold shoulder, mainly because they've got loverboy KD to compete with.
I can see Warnock getting games, and I think he'll do a decent job.
To be honest, they could buy the best defenders in the world...if they don't change the style of play, they're staying in this division.

I've posted before on here that a left back was a priority to get in the loan window.
I simply don't rate Alonso and Ricketts as had to play out of position for the large part of the end of last season (yet Coyle didn't see fit to bring in a replacement in the summer???) - so one was desperately needed.
Mears from what snippets I've seen as been dreadful so far - so Ricketts is now been freed up to challenge him for that position and also add cover for the centre back shambles of Knight, Mills and Ream.
I thought he and Knight played well together when Cahill was out ill a season or so ago - as I've been less then impressed so far with Ream and Mills and I think Knight is dreadful (yet the best of the three this season so far!), I might be tempted to try them again soon if we keep defending like a bunch of strangers meeting up for the first time rather than a well drilled defensive unit.

I still think that given the players we have we might consider playing with 3 CBs with more attacking FBs. Couldn't do any harm IMO.
Just remind me - when is Wheater back? Next year?
And what's the word on Spearing?

Alonso is fighting for his game - good show by the lad. I hope some of the duffers in the squad follow his example.

I like the idea of Warnock signing but Alonso is working harder at his game, Sam is OK and there are other positions that need strengthening before LB. And it just doesn't stack up with PGs comments about bringing youngsters through this season. Where are they? Busy stuffing Arsenal's kids and winning away from home - but not getting a run out or even warming the bench for the most part.
OC must see something in Mears that has just passed me by. Where's Riley when you need him?

Alonso is an absolute nightmare. He made Wednesday's number 7 look like Antonio Valencia.
Don't get me wrong, there's potential there. He can tackle very well and he is useful going forward. But like every Wanderers full back of the last 5 years, his knowledge of where to be and when is appalling, and the time and space he allows is shocking!
