Carabao Cup success against Watford in midweek won’t stop Newport boss Mike Flynn from switching his side up at Wanderers.

After booking a fourth round clash with Newcastle United, Flynn looks set to continue living up to his ‘tinkerman’ reputation by keeping his side fresh at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Flynn has rotated his squad consistently between league and cup, with even club captain Joss Labadie and top marksman Padraig Amond not guaranteed a starting spot.

And woe betide any players who complain about not being in the starting line-up.

"I've just told them that I hope nobody goes away sulking or trying to have any negative impact on the group, because I will get rid of them. I will send them into the academy and they won't be part of our group because we can't have that," said the Welshman.

"I know that those are harsh words but this is the time that you need to keep on top of them and you need to keep everyone together.

"I don't want anybody to get carried away or anybody to try to drift away from the group."

Newport have excelled so far this season, beating Championship big-hitters Swansea City and Watford and Cambridge in the Carabao Cup either side of an undefeated start in League Two. And in doing so, Flynn has used 21 different players.

Flynn is keen to keep his players hungry ahead of their first game at Bolton since 1988, the year Newport were relegated to the Conference and subsequently forced to reform.

"When players get their chance, they've got to take it,” he said. “It's as simple as that. I've never seen a footballer get into a team by sulking and they definitely won't here.

"The players haven't been sulking – I just want to make that clear – I am just putting a line in the sand."
