Could You Go Gay?

I listened to an interesting programme on Radio 4 (some of you might have to Google "radio") this morning about sex in British prisons. Despite being against the law, it is quite rampant and very much on the rise.

Several current and past inmates were interviewed and, to be fair, they were extremely open and honest. The majority of the programme was dedicated to inmates being "jail bent" as it's called inside.

Jail bent is the term used for a person who is straight on the outside but seeks sexual contact with the same sex when in prison.

According to reseach, 40% of men serving a prison sentence of longer than 3 years have, at some point, been jail bent. The figure for women is even higher, 48% saying they had slept with another woman while in prison.

Interesting stuff. No doubt we all think we're 100% straight (except Jayjay of course), but if you were facing years behind bars would you be prepared to get your sexual release from another man?

Having never served a prison sentence of three years or longer I couldn't possibly comment. Personally, I prefer to stick to what I know, i.e. Mrs Thumb and her four daughters.

i don't think anyone knows how they would react until they're in that situation. i'm sure all these men and women that have a gay relationship in prison didn't think for a minute it would happen when they spent their first night there.

was an interesting depiction of it on the Louis Theroux programe.

Maybe, if I sustained head trauma from a car crash that left me in a coma. I could possibly wake up with a brand new personality.

I don't think any of us can honestly say, hand on heart, that we haven't at some time or other wondered how it would feel to be locked up in some godforsaken hell hole of a jailhouse, passed around like a bag of chips and gang-banged senseless by a drug-fueled, sex-crazed mob of assorted murderers, hoodlums, psychopaths and nonces.
