Eoin Doyle will miss out on the chance to face his former club Bradford City because of a hamstring strain.
Wanderers were last night waiting on the results of a scan to assess how long the Irish striker would be out of action after picking up the injury in the second half at Cambridge United at the the weekend.
"It’s mid hamstring, which potentially is good news, and means it’s right in the belly of the hamstring instead of being towards one of the tendons," Ian Evatt explained.
"We’re hopeful. He’s never had a hamstring injury before, myself and Eoin were joking this morning that we didn’t think he was quick enough to pull a hamstring, but the mechanism was as he went to cross the ball and cocked his leg back, he felt his hamstring.
"Eoin being Eoin wanted to try and carry on and the law of averages, I think he had touched the ball most in that five-minute spell of where he was injured than he has all season so it’s just the way things happen sometimes, but we also joke that his left foot pass for the (Harry) Brockbank goal was while he was injured so it shows he can use his left. He’s a top player for us, a fantastic player and we hope that it’s only a couple of weeks."
Arthur Gnahoua could make his second start of the season in Doyle's absence alongside Nathan Delfouneso.
Evatt believes the former Macclesfield Town man has made an encouraging start to his Bolton career.
“He’s different in terms of he’s more of a ball carrier than the others,” he said. “He can dribble and beat a man. He can control with both feet and he’s reliable. He can shoot with both feet.
“He has a hammer in both feet, which we haven’t seen yet. But he can shoot and he’s done great.
“He’s the one that out of all the ones we’ve signed late has been robust enough to be able to handle training.
“He’s the one that hasn’t broke down and is consistently able to cope with the demands of what we’re putting on him. He was unlucky to be left out on Saturday because he played very well at Barrow and he came on again on Saturday and showed what he can do.
“As football is, we lose Eoin but it’s an opportunity for somebody else and it’s an opportunity for Arthur to cement himself in the team.”
